1 New ground handling model v2.0 released

With this update we have released our new ground handling cost model version 2.0. The model is now bottom-up, driver-based, considering significantly more detail:

– Bottom-up manhour calculations taking into account scope of work, carrier type, aircraft type, aircraft configuration
– Estimates for handler SG&A and margin
– Local labor rate impact
– Monopoly handling impact
– Airport size impact
– Actual inflation impact leveraging reported values

This additional detail allows significant enhancements for our users:

– More accurate estimation of realistic turn costs
– New benchmarking capabilities
– Ability to adjust the model driver-based

As always, we are open for any feedback in case further refinement desired.

2 ATC model upgrade to consider airspace closures

Given the evolving geopolitical situation, we reviewed and enhanced our ATC cost model this quarter. Key improvements include:

– Collection and integration of closed airspace data by country, depending on airline region
– Development of an algorithm to estimate actual flight paths, considering all airspace restrictions
– Accurate identification of countries overflown by each flight
– Application of country-specific ATC rates to calculate flight-level ATC costs
– Inflation adjustments are made using reported data

As an outcome, there are higher ATC costs overall, especially for flights operating from Europe to Asia and vice versa.

3 Passenger & revenue model refined
Skailark has once again made another step forward regarding its passenger flow and revenue model. Please note the following enhancements:

Model intelligence: O&D passenger to segment allocation logic refined, further taking into account the available seats per flight in each allocation step.
New yield data sources: Added various yield data from different countries and regions to enhance our revenue data.

4 Crew HOTAC model improved

We’ve refined our cut-off logic for crew layovers.

As a result, crew HOTAC-related costs are likely higher compared to previous versions of Airline Economics.

As a reminder: the decision on whether crew hotel accommodation (HOTAC) is required is primarily based on total flight time and regulatory thresholds. In addition, night stops outside of the hub/base of the tail are further key considerations for this decision.

5 Additional airlines added across Europe and Africa

We are pleased to announce the addition of more carriers across Europe and Africa. These include:
– Airlink
– Cyprus Airways
– KM Malta Airlines
– South African Airways
– TUI Group (UK, Belgium, Germany, Netherlands, Nordic)

6 Updated Q1 financials and added Q2 forecasts

As you are already acquainted with by now, we have validated our Q1’25 forecasts with reported actual financials (where available). Furthermore, we have added Q2’25 supply data including our latest outside-in forecasts.
